Letter from the President

A Message from

BOMA Toledo Chapter President

Michael Miller

Thank you for visiting the Building Owners and Managers (BOMA) Toledo website. BOMA Toledo is a member of BOMA International, the oldest and largest international association of the office building industry. BOMA International is a federation of 89 BOMA U.S. associations and 18 international affiliates. Founded in 1907, BOMA represents the owners and managers of all commercial property types including nearly 10.5 billion square feet of U.S. office space that supports 1.7 million jobs and contributes $234.9 billion to the U.S. GDP. Its mission is to advance a vibrant commercial real estate industry through advocacy, influence, and knowledge. Our Toledo chapter is also a member of Ohio BOMA, whose membership includes offices located in Cleveland, Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati.

At the local level, we gain insights into our immediate surroundings, explore new developments, and discover innovative building features. Additionally, we benefit from valuable networking opportunities with professionals who face the same daily challenges as we do.

Our State organization actively monitors legislation within the state government that could negatively impact our businesses. Therefore, Ohio BOMA organizes an annual Advocacy Day where members from all local chapters gather in Columbus to meet with elected officials. Over the past few years, our voices have been influential on various issues, such as expanding state sales tax and preserving historical tax credits vital to reviving our downtown areas. Moreover, Ohio BOMA offers chances for smaller companies to save on Workers Compensation rates through participation in the BOMA group.

BOMA fosters professionalism in our industry by setting building standards that surpass state and local government requirements, offering continuing education courses, and providing opportunities for professional designations like RPA, FMA, etc., through BOMI International. Lastly, BOMA continually advocates for our interests at the federal level in Washington D.C.

During my inaugural term as President of our local BOMA chapter, I aim to foster growth within the organization and collaborate with our Board to surpass pre-pandemic membership levels, while also introducing fresh opportunities for our members. This year, our board’s objective is to incorporate a few social events as an addition to monthly meetings. Please don’t hesitate to share your suggestions for future meeting topics by emailing me at mmiller@manhattangrp.com. Together, let’s make 2023-2024 an exceptional year for BOMA Toledo.

My primary objectives this year include attracting new members to BOMA Toledo and hosting meetings that focus on subjects relevant to our membership. We strive to recruit and bring value to young professionals who have chosen commercial real estate or property management as their career path. I guarantee that your involvement in BOMA will be a fruitful endeavor, offering invaluable insights into our industry and community, as well as expanding your network with exceptional individuals.

I’d like to express my gratitude to our BOMA Board of Directors, particularly our immediate past President Tony Szczechowski, and our BOMA Business Administrative Executive (BAE), Sarah Dorsey. Their unwavering support, expert guidance, and camaraderie have made our organization one I’m honored to be a part of. I look forward to seeing you at an upcoming meeting and encourage you to reach out with any questions or suggestions at any time.
